Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alternation, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the district.  Maintain district structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • High School diploma or GED

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools uses in carpentry
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Ability to read blueprints and diagrams
  • Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to install, adjust, and service locks and related equipment
  • Ability to cut new or duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, or codes
  • Ability to open locks for which there is no key or existing combination
  • Ability to repair and service “panic hardware” on doors
  • Ability to maintain shop master key boxes within the shop areas for accessibility to areas of the campus for shop personnel in the maintenance function
  • Knowledge of the techniques for keying, repairing, installing, and servicing locks and related hardware
  • Ability to communicate verbal and written

Experience:

  • Five years experience as skilled carpenter

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise and evaluate the work of maintenance employees in the department.

Equipment Used:

Hand and power tools, measuring devices, propane torches, fork lift, trencher, backhoe.  Light truck or van.

Working Conditions.  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors:                                                                                                                              

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching, heavy lifting and carrying.  Ability to operate hand, power and bench tools.  Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts.  Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, and toxic chemicals.  Frequent districtwide travel.
