PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The role of the Vocational Training Specialist is to assist students with disabilities and employer/supervisor in supportive training on campus and in the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
.High School Diploma or G.E.D. .48 College Hours
.Eligible for Certification as per TEA rules and regulations
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Reviews individual student records and confers with assigned special education teachers to identify handicapped student's strengths, weaknesses and supportive training needs.
- Assists in the development and placement of handicapped students in supportive training sites on campus and in the community in cooperation with the vocational adjustment coordinator.
- Provides orientation to handicapped students on supportive training sites requirements and expectations.
- Provides community and parent awareness activities in conjunction with the supportive training program.
- Provides ongoing assistance, direction and guidance to handicapped students in improving their supportive training performance.
- Provides written six week progress reports on handicapped students participating in supportive training.
- Provides ongoing assistance to the employer/supervisor in the training and management of handicapped students.
- Assists the employer/supervisor in the development of a supportive job/training environment for handicapped students.
- Advises the employer/supervisor of job/training modifications needed by handicapped students participating in supportive training.
- Displays a cooperativeness in working with parents, handicapped students, school personnel and employers/supervisors.
- Exhibits punctuality, maturity, and dependability in performing assigned duties.
- Participates in staff development and professional growth activities.
