SALARY: $51,300 /minimum plus Competetive Stipend

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

The role of the Assistant Band Director is to assist the head band director coordinate and administer the high school band within the policies of the District and other regulatory agencies.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Organizes and administers the high school band program.
  2. Directs instrumental performers, including marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloist, and ensembles.
  3. Establishes performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
  4. Provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL.
  5. Supports band booster club activities.
  6. Develops and implements plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student student differences.
  7. Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas

Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

  1. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  2. Works with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements
  3. Obtains and uses evaluative findings(including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
  4. Conducts ongoing assessment of student achievement formal and informal testing.
  5. Is a positive role model for students and supports the mission of the school district.
  6. Coordinates and schedules all competitive/performance concerts.                               
  7. Assumes administrative responsibility for securing needed personnel at band events.   
  8. Possesses ability and skill for effective communication to all facets of the school and community.      
  9. Establishes and maintains effective public relations for band programs through positive and cooperative interaction with news media, booster organizations, etc.  
  10. Exhibits planning, organizational, and leadership skills.
  11. Assumes responsibility for ensuring music programs comply with University Interscholastic League rules and regulations, and disseminates this information to the applicable directors and administrators.  
  12. Demonstrates cooperativeness and flexibility in working with various components of the school and community.     
  13. Represents the district at U.I.L. meetings, etc.
  14. Assist with recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of assistant band directors.
  15. Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  16. Adheres to District procedures relative to budgeting, purchasing and distributing equipment and supplies.                                                                                         
  17. Maintains effective inventory and accountability procedures for equipment, supplies, etc.
  18. Inspects band facilities and equipment regularly to ensure proper care and maintenance.      
  19. Prepares budget for band program.               
  20. Works with the Head Band Director to develop and document program needs and ensure that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  21. Coordinates fundraising activities and manages funds.  
  22. Maintains current inventory of all fixed assets related to the program.
  23. Oversees cleaning, repairing, and storing of all instruments and equipment.
  24. Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required.
  25. Supervises student conduct effectively and adheres to district policies related to disciplinary actions, records, parent contacts, etc.                                            
  26. Assists in supervising extra-curricular events.
  27. Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  28. Manages student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student Handbook.
  29. Accompanies and supervises students on out-of-town trips activities and assists with the arrangement of transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
  30. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  31. Pursues professional development activities.
  32. Adheres to professional channels in communicating ideas, concerns, etc.
  33. Exhibits punctuality and dependability in attending meetings, reading and responding to District communication, etc     
  34. Adheres to Professional Ethical Standards in relationship to students, parents, patrons, teachers and administrators.                                  
  35. Accepts and performs additional school related assignments in a positive and efficient manner.
  36. Participates in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.                       
  37. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  38. Complies with deferral and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
  39. Uses appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.  
  40. Establishes and maintains a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
